Yama Yoga's Two Day Juice Reset
Two Days to a Better You.
Your health is important and in respect of the coming summer, it is time perhaps for a quick reset, especially if you are feeling the winter bloat. This is not about weight loss per se but the effects of even a two-day juice fast can be long lasting and result in losing a few pounds. If you are opting to lose weight, long-term lifestyle changes are proven to be the best plan and following a more gradual plan can really help that long-term goal. In a way, cleansing can be the ultimate lifestyle game-changing Kickstarter. After just a few days you can feel better, look better, absorb a ton of macronutrients, and improve overall digestion.
The first day of my plan is a juice-only day. This means pure water with a squeeze of lemon all day long and some home-pressed unsweetened fruit or vegetable juices. Drinking vegetable juices will help to provide you with those key nutrients and even give you the energy to spark your day. My first recipe in the morning is always a green one! Yep, the green juice that folks sneer at. It can be delicious actually! This gluten-free, paleo, vegan, vegetarian option is amazing and simple and I got it from "The Endless Meal" website.
- 2 cups spinach or kale leaves
- 2 cups pineapple
- 1/2 medium banana
- 1/2 an apple, cored
- 2 tablespoons hemp hearts or flax seeds
- 2 cups filtered water
When making vegetable and fruit juices, try to use organic produce when possible. Wash carefully before preparation. When using celery and other root vegetables include the stalks and leaves in the juice as a lot of the nutrients are contained here. If not using organic, it is best to remove the roots, stalks and leaves and dispose of them - they make great compost.
Because these recipes are not set in stone think about combining carrots and apples or raspberry, peach or orange for your second juice meal of the day. Depending on the combination of veggies to fruit I love adding ginger or turmeric to help with any inflammation, promote healthy digestion, and give my juice a little zing! I like to juice enough for one serving and drink immediately as I know I am getting the freshest product. You can drink as much as you would like but aim to consume at least 1- 1.5 liters of water so you stay hydrated. Water should be filtered and should not be carbonated or flavored for this first day.
My Usual Lunch Recipe:
- 2 large beets
- 1 large carrot
- 1 apple
- 1 bunch flat-leaf parsley
- 1 lemon
- fresh ginger
Prepare your veggies by washing them and cutting them into one-inch chunks. Add as much ginger as you like - I even punch this up with a little cayenne pepper! Of course, you want to use a juicer for these or a power blender and then use a strainer or bag to take out the pulp.
At Dinner time you may want to do complete fruit to add some sweetness to your day.
My Dinner Recipe:
- 1 1/2 cups apple juice
- 2 cups assorted frozen fruit (I used blueberries or peaches)
- Add organic dates
- Try adding a mint garnish
On day two keep it simple and follow the same recipes. These juices will increase the amount of waste eliminated by your system. Then on day two add the following Watermelon recipe in between as a snack. Watermelon is a fantastic fruit that acts as a diuretic and will help speed the passage of fluids through your system. Add pineapple and mango to help stimulate the growth of good bacteria in your gut (so important) while grapes will help to counter the production of mucus which can clog your tissues.
- frozen watermelon
- frozen pineapple
- bunch of grapes
- 1 mango
- 1 lemon
Be sure to get plenty of rest using Yoga and relaxation techniques following this plan. You may want to grab a bolster and try some Yin Yoga and use a longer guided meditation. Oh and I should mention that you may want to stay closer to home in case the cleansing effects come on rather suddenly. Following this two-day cleanse you will likely notice that water weight, bloating and some digestive issues may be resolved. You could feel a surge in energy along with just feeling lighter, less foggy, and more dynamic. This is what can really help kickstart any new plan for long-term health and wellness.
The following day (after your two days of juicing) start your day with Yoga and then a breakfast that is digestible. Too much too soon can cause a build-up of toxins. I would recommend overnight oats or even an almond milk smoothie. Going into lunch perhaps a stew or spring soup? In the evening try and eat a light normal well-balanced dinner - with your veggies cooked or steamed. Introducing whole foods slowly is an amazing way to see how you feel on those foods. End your day with a grounding walk outside. Make a plan to continue a healthy lifestyle.
Just a reminder - Two days of drinking just juices may not be suitable for those who are pregnant, already underweight or have any existing health problems. Consult your nutritionist or health care provider for any questions.
